The personal injury claim process

Our compensation lawyers here in Sydney have built a reputation for securing our clients lower fees and bigger wins. When it comes to handling compensation claims, we’re proud to be a little bit different. We make getting started easy — here’s how it works.

Talk with a lawyer

The first step is an initial conversation with one of our compensation lawyers. It typically takes 30 minutes for us to find out all about your claim, but we’re happy to spend as much time with you as necessary.

Get a letter of advice

Once we’ve had that initial conversation, we’ll send you a letter of advice. This will be sent within a few days of that initial conversation and will list our specific recommendations for your claim. This is always delivered really simply, without any unnecessary legal jargon.

Start the process

Once you’re ready to go ahead with your claim, one of our compensation lawyers will commence the claim process. This will look different from claim to claim but always begins with our team notifying any relevant parties and beginning to gather evidence.

Our compensation lawyers are a little bit different.

vbr Lawyers is different. Here’s what makes our compensation lawyers stand out from the rest.

Win more for less

With lower fees and bigger compensation claim wins, we get you more for less.

No win, no fee

Our Sydney compensation lawyers take any risk out of your claim with our No Win, No Fee policy.

Always deal with a senior lawyer

Each of our claims is handled by one of our senior compensation lawyers — never a junior or paralegal.

Work with an award-winning firm

The compensation lawyers in our Sydney personal injury law firm are award-winning.

A compassionate approach

Personal injury law claims are already stressful. We take a compassionate approach.

The opposite of the big firms

You’re so much more than a number to our Sydney lawyers. You’ll notice the difference with us.

It’s No Win, No Fee

The No Win, No Fee policy means you only pay us once we win. The idea of your compensation claim is to reimburse you for your financial losses and costs, like medical expenses incurred as a result of your injury or experience. This policy means you’re not burdened further with more expenses in a time that is already really stressful. If we do win, you’ll pay us a portion of that win. It takes away the stress of worrying about upfront costs.

Our low fee model

We know that when you seek legal advice, you can also be concerned about the high costs associated with your claim. We work to keep your fees low so that you receive a bigger share of your compensation claim. It’s important to us that you get to use the compensation you win to actually rebuild and move forward with your life.

We charge less

With our commitment to charging less, our fees are 20 to 40% less than the big firms. As well as that, we don’t charge uplift (an additional charge for risky claims), and we have a maximum cap on our legal fees (excluding refunds and expenses) at 30% of your claim. Legally, this can be up to 50%.

And if we do win you a bigger sum, we won’t charge that full 30%. We’ll just take what we need to cover our professional fees.

And we win more

We work hard to secure you a larger amount of compensation. Larger firms are often criticised for churning through compensation claims. They rush through claims to get more of them through the door. At vbr Lawyers, we’re the opposite. We want to make sure you’re truly compensated, and we do this by taking the time to gather the right evidence, waiting for your injuries to stabilise (so medical professionals can provide accurate assessments), and collecting all the right evidence.

This more considered approach allows us to maximise your claim and compensate you well for your experience.
